Outreach Clinics In Sarawak
|
Happy and satisfied volunteers after a job well done during the outreach clinic in Kampung Tiris |
The Sarawak Chapter has been busy with two different outreach clinic missions. The first outreach clinic was in Kampung Nyalau in January 2010 and then Kampung Tiris in April 2010. Travelling to the two communities was the biggest challenge we faced due to the conditions of the roads. It took the teams about 2 hours to reach Kampung Nyalau and 1 half hour to get to Kampung Tiris.
We were overwhelmed by the number of volunteers who wanted to join our outreach clinics. In the end we had to inform the volunteers that they would be put in the waiting list for future outreach clinics. The positive thing about this is that this shows that in the world today there are still lots of people with compassion wanting to be of service to humanity.
The outreach clinics were a great success. At times there were so many patients waiting to be treated that our teams were worried if they would be able to attend to all of them. But finally they managed to treat everyone who came. In all they treated over 300 patients from both communities.
MERCY Malaysia’s Sarawak Chapter is planning more activities in future, including outreach clinics and school watching workshops. We will keep you updated.
If you are from Sarawak and are interested in joining any of our programmes, please contact Elizabeth at 885-663000 or elizabethwee@mercy.org.my
