Eric Lee, Group Chief Financial Officer presents mock cheque to En Ir Zairulshahfuddin Zainal Abidin, Executive Director, MERCY Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, 21 April 2010 - Employees of Alliance Financial Group (AFG) showcased their spirit of humanity as RM10,000 was collected from a nationwide Haiti Earthquake Emergency Appeal Fund donation drive campaign. The one month campaign early in the year was initiated by AFG across its subsidiaries and branches to assist the Haiti earthquake survivors and victims of the earthquake in rebuilding their lives. Dato' Thomas Mun Lung Lee, Chairman of Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad said, "Time and again, I am pleasantly surprised by the caring attitude shown by our staff. It was a time where pockets were light due to the Chinese New Year season. Yet our people still came to the aid of a nation struck with great disaster and tragedy". He added that, "At the core of AFG is our dedication to people's well being, be it in business - in serving our customers - or in serving the public - every individual." Alliance Bank topped up the amount and forwarded the contribution to MERCY Malaysia, a non-profit medical relief organisation, who will then channel the funds to its partner, Medical Emergency Relief International (Merlin), who are still on the ground at Port-au-Prince. Merlin, is a UK based INGO specialising in health, saving lives in times of crisis and helping to rebuild shattered health services. "The contribution from AFG signifies the unwavering support from the Malaysian corporate sector, in spite of the current economic situation. Financial contributions from corporations such as Alliance Bank are valuable for us to maintain our efforts in providing sustainable humanitarian relief especially to the victims in Haiti," said MERCY Malaysia's Executive Director, Zairulshahfuddin Zainal Abidin. On the home front, MERCY Malaysia provides basic healthcare to vulnerable communities such as, amongst others, the Orang Asli community in the Belum rainforest, street children residing in Rumah Nursalam Chow Kit, and far-off communities located in the remote interiors of Sabah and Sarawak. Zairulshahfuddin added that, MERCY Malaysia hopes that many more corporations will step up and emulate the efforts made by Alliance Bank so that the relief organisation can continue to provide hope and care to the community. |
