MERCY Malaysia activates domestic flood mechanisms and provides aid to flood victims in Kedah and Perlis

MERCY Malaysia has activated its domestic floods response mechanisms in its preparation to provide aid to the flood victims in the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia.

We are now coordinating with our Northern Region Chapter through our representative, Major Haji Anuar Abd Hamid, as well as with the National Security Council (NSC) and the local authorities in the region.

For the flood relief efforts, we have mobilised our volunteers to conduct needs assessments in the affected area in the region, especially in the states of Kedah and Perlis, to determine the needs of the beneficiaries.

Based on our assessments, we have determined the areas that we will be providing aid for now, among them are Arau in Perlis, and Kubang Pasu and Padang Terap in Kedah.

Earlier today, we have dispatched 900 hygiene kits to the northern region and we hope our volunteers on the field will be able to distribute the kits to the flood survivors in Kedah and Perlis tomorrow.

Each hygiene kit contains items such as tooth paste, tooth brush, comb, soap, shampoo, slippers, towel, sanitary pads, undergarment, and pail.

It is important that these flood survivors receive these hygiene kits as they are displaced by the floods and are susceptible to water-borne diseases such as diarrhoea.
