Launch of International Humanitarian Conference 2011 (IHC) by HRH Crown Prince of Perak Darul Ridzuan, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah

KUALA LUMPUR – MERCY Malaysia successfully organised and hosted the International Humanitarian Conference 2011 (IHC) themed “Doing It Better: Transforming Humanitarian Efforts” here in Kuala Lumpur.

One of the highlights of the conference was the launch of the Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Humanitarian Lecture Series which was officially launched by Raja Dr Nazrin Shah with his inaugural speech at the conference.

This lecture series which will be held annually from 2012 onwards will feature eminent speakers in the humanitarian arena which will elevate and enhance the focus on humanitarian authority and humanitarianism in the region.

The conference, which was attended by more than 130 participants and delegates from Europe, the Middle East and Asia provided an ideal opportunity for dialogues and an exchange of ideas with some key players in the humanitarian community from around the world.

HRH Raja Dr Nazrin Shah expressed his profound respect and admiration for MERCY Malaysia volunteers which now stands at more than 5,000. He admires their motivation in rendering their help and preparedness to go out of their comfort zone to offer humanitarian assistance to those in need.

Apart from this, human security is also stressed by HRH Raja Dr Nazrin Shah to enable people to feel confident about the present and future and how to encourage innovation within the constraints of limited resources and challenging working conditions in the humanitarian environment. Thus, the outcomes could serve as the basic from which various humanitarian actors can determine the possible strategies in preventing human sufferings.
