MERCY Malaysia Received RM500,000 From Berjaya Corporations

KUALA LUMPUR - MERCY Malaysia received another helping hand through Berjaya Corporations’ donation of RM500,000 in conjunction with the Berjaya Founder’s Day celebration at Berjaya Times Square on 25 February 2012. This is the second year running in which MERCY Malaysia has received a sizeable donation from Berjaya Corporations following last year’s contribution by Berjaya Cares Foundation.

MERCY Malaysia’s Honorary Treasurer, Ir. Amran Mahzan was on hand to receive the donation at the ceremony.

MERCY Malaysia President, Dato’ Dr Ahmad Faizal Perdaus, said “We could not thank Berjaya Corporation enough for their continued support of MERCY Malaysia. The care and compassion shown by corporate bodies as well as the public, whether through volunteerism or donation, is a huge motivating factor for us”.

“MERCY Malaysia will utilise this valuable contribution to expand our humanitarian efforts in on-going domestic and international projects. We are looking to channel some of the fund to our mobile clinic project in the Philippines as well as our water filtration project in Thailand” he added.

According to Dr Faizal, the rest of the fund will be put into the MERCY Malaysia General Humanitarian Fund, which is the standard channel to generate reserve funds for future disasters as well as strengthening local disaster preparedness.

Since its inception in 1999, MERCY Malaysia has continued to be at the forefront of emergency response to and recovery from natural disasters and conflict situation as well as disaster risk reduction as recently highlighted with missions to Somalia, Philippines and Pakistan, among others.
