 Malaysia
is a multi-ethnic, multi-religious nation of 22 million comprising
Malays, Chinese, Indians and several minority groups. Independent since
1957, Malaysia is blessed with political and social stability, a fast
developing economy and a forward-looking populace. Malaysians
by nature are warm, hospitable and tolerant. Like most Asians, they are
imbued with strong traditional and moral values.
The
country has been called to serve on numerous peacekeeping missions and
relief work, mostly under the auspices of the United Nations. From
troubled African nations like Congo and Somalia to East European
hotspots like the Balkans, to sites of devastating natural catastrophes
like the earthquakes in Japan, Turkey and Taiwan, Malaysian forces have
performed with commendable spirit of cooperation and teamwork.
Malaysians
are now ready to volunteer their expertise to complement the country's
initiative towards a better and healthier society.
