MERCY Malaysia Concluded Medical Services In Bagh, Pakistan PDF Print E-mail

MERCY Malaysia began deploying medical and humanitarian aid since 10 October 2005 following an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale in Pakistan on 8 October 2005. MERCY Malaysia provided initial Emergency Medical Relief, specialist care in primarily Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, primary care health and psychosocial and mental health services to the people of Bagh, Pakistan.

Effective 1 July 2006, MERCY Malaysia concluded its medical services in Bagh and will proceed to concentrate on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of health infrastructures phase.

Medical services provided by MERCY Malaysia as well as in collaboration with local and international partners:

1. Surgical services in collaboration with Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) at PIMA Field Hospital, Bagh from October 2005 to June 2006.

Total cases attended: 9,176 cases

2. Obstetric & Gynaecological Services in collaboration with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) at DHQ Bagh from October 2005 to April 2006.

Total cases attended: 3,230 cases

3. Mobile Clinics in collaboration with District Health Office (DHO) Bagh and World Health Organisation (WHO) at Bagh Tehsil district (Chauki, Juglari, Thub, Banji Pasari, Besuti, Kafalgarh, Kharal Maldialan, Naryola, Nakkar, Lohar Bela, Ban Gara, Bani Manashan and Dana 4) from October 2005 to March 2006.

Total cases attended: 9,600 cases

4. Mental Health Service in collaboration with Mental Health Relief Unit of District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) and Ministry of Health Pindi at Pyschosocial Centre Bagh and DHQ Bagh from December 2005 to June 2006.

Total beneficiaries: 7,704 beneficiaries

MERCY Malaysia has deployed a total of 88 mission members and staff (71 medical and 17 non medical) to Pakistan since October 2005 up to 11 July 2006.
