MERCY Malaysia Continues With Sabah Islands Project |

MERCY Malaysia travels to the islands of Sabah to reach remote communities, isolated from basic medical facilities.

On 13 June 2006, MERCY Malaysia resumes its Sabah Islands Project which began in 2004.
A 13 member team, consisting of 9 medical and 4 non-medical personnel were deployed to Pulau Balambangan and Pulau Mantanani Besar, Sabah for a total of three (3) days.
MERCY Malaysia offered medical care and attention as part of its Community Health Programme to Kampung Pasir Puteh and Kampung Selamat, Pulau Balambangan and Kampung Nelayan, Pulau Mantanani Besar.

Among the cases treated were ringworm infestation, arthritis, malnutrition, scabies, asthma, skin infection, scurvy and dysentery. One case of tuberculosis were reported and referred to Kota Belud Medical Centre for further treatment.
The Sabah Islands Project for June 2006 reached 500 people in Pulau Mantanani Besar and Pulau Balambangan.
