Primary Health Care For Underpriviledged Mothers And Children 2006 Programme PDF Print E-mail

MERCY Malaysia conducted an assessment on mothers and children in areas of Sabah in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in January 2006. The assessment concludes that communities highly benefits should basic documentation of health information and primary health care programmes being introduced to them. sabah_pgaya_2006

Since March to 28 June 2006, MERCY Malaysia have deployed a total of five (5) missions, consisting of 27 mission members (19 medical and 8 non-medical members and volunteers) to Sabah for the Primary Health Care for Underprivileged Mothers and Children in Sabah 2006 programme.

MERCY Malaysia held mobile clinics at assessed settlements and provided primary health care to mothers and children. A total of 1,788 patients received medical treatment by MERCY Malaysia’s teams.

Mobile clinics were held at:

1. Kampung Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya, Kota Kinabalu: (329 patients; 104 mothers and 225 children)

2. Pulau Jampiras, Sandakan: (177 patient; 49 mothers and 128 children)

3. Kampung Hidayat, Tawau: (223 patients; 83 mothers and 140 children)

4. Kg Selamat, Semporna: (289 patients: 90 mothers and 193 children)

5. Pulau Mabul, Semporna: (775 patients; 177 mothers and 560 children)

MERCY Malaysia is currently preparing for its next mobile clinic in Labuan, Sabah which is tentatively scheduled for July 2006.
