MERCY Malaysia completed the rehabilitation of Pusat Kesihatan Masyarakat (PUSKESMAS) Rawat Inap Dlingo, in Kecamatan Bantul, Yogyakarta, and handed over the keys of the community health centre to the management of PUSKESMAS appointed by the Ministry of Health of Yogyakarta on the 18th of July 2007.

Amongst the services provided by the reconstructed Puskesmas Rawat Inap Dlingo are family, women’s and mobile clinics; public health nursing and environmental health; nutrition an immunization plus dental facilities; an Emergency Response facility as well as a laboratory; and more. The centre also boasts ultrasound, ECG and other basic health services and facilities that cater to both in- and out-patients.

Through this project, MERCY Malaysia has outfitted the building with anti-seismic technology, thus safeguarding the structure from the devastation of possible future earthquakes. Also, this rehabilitation exercise aims to improve the centre’s services and facilities while increasing their capacity to accommodate more in- and out-patients through the building of ample treatment and operating rooms.

Costing a total of RM700,000, Puskesmas Rawat Inap Dlingo was reconstructed in two phases – the first sponsored by MERCY Malaysia through its Humanitarian Fund and the second, amounting to RM200,000, was thanks to TV3’s ‘Tabung Gempabumi Yogyakarta’. Upon completion, the centre is now ready to serve between 50 and 70 cases per day in an area that covers six villages that are populated by 37,000 villagers.
