Flood Relief In Johor : MERCY Malaysia Appeals For Public Donation PDF Print E-mail

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – MERCY Malaysia’s flood relief efforts in Johor are now into its seventh day. Having provided medical and humanitarian aid to approximately 9,000 people in more than 10 flood-hit areas in the state, MERCY Malaysia is now appealing to the public for donations to continue its efforts.

MERCY Malaysia will send its first relief team into Region 5, with a focus on Albay and Catanduanes, on the 5th of December 2006. The team will evaluate medical and humanitarian needs for the recovery of the displaced population. Based on information received to date, the urgent needs are temporary shelters, clean water and health services.

Kuala Lumpur - MERCY Malaysia’s President, Datuk Dr. Jemilah Mahmood yesterday was conferred the highest honour by the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College, USA. The award, created to celebrate human rights and non-violence, was accepted on her behalf by her husband and co-founder of MERCY Malaysia, Dato’ Dr. Ashar Abdullah, as Dr. Jemilah is currently attending a training programme in Sweden with the United Nations.

MERCY Malaysia Postpones ‘Gift Of Sight’ Mission To North Korea PDF Print E-mail

Kuala Lumpur - MERCY Malaysia announced today that it has postponed its ‘Gift of Sight’ mission to North Korea due to the current conditions of the said country. The “Gift of Sight” Project would have been made up of an ophthalmology team that was set to perform surgery on approximately 100 referral cases in Pyongyang and has been postponed until further notice.
