Shah Alam - Responding to MERCY Malaysia's request for medical aids, Pharmaniaga today handed over RM28,000.00 worth of medical supplies to MERCY, in aid of the recent earthquake in Yogyakarta.
The supplies were mainly antibiotics, analgesics, pain killers and
disposable surgical items. The supplies were delivered to MERCY's
headquarters today and will be sent to Yogyakarta with MERCY's 4th
medical team.
"MERCY has always been known for its speed in
responding to disasters such as this and we are confident that the
medical supplies we contributed will go directly to those in need.
Pharmaniaga is honoured to associate ourselves to MERCY and to support
their noble cause", said Azhar Hussain, Managing Director of
Pharmaniaga Berhad.
Pharmaniaga also makes an annual monetary
donation of RM200,000 to MERCY where the grant is spent on local
Medical Missions such as mobile medical camps to the inlands of Sarawak
and islands of Sabah.
Last year, Pharmaniaga was the first
healthcare company to send humanitarian medical aid to the tsunami
stricken Aceh through the Royal Malaysian Air Force. Pharmaniaga also
sent 3 tonnes of medical supplies on board the Royal Malaysian Navy
vessel KD Mahawangsa. Both donations were coordinated by the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs Malaysia.
Pharmaniaga has presence in
Indonesia via its subsidiary company, PT Millennium Pharmacon
International Tbk (MPI). MPI has 24 branch offices, with one located in
Yogyakarta and another in the neighbouring town, Solo. Grateful that
both branch offices were spared from the effects of the earthquake,
MPI's immediate response was to offer immediate supply of medical
products to all major hospitals within the affected area.
