Datuk Dr Jemilah Mahmood has not returned to Malaysia as erroneously reported in a Malay daily on January 7, 2009.

Dr Jemilah is still in Egypt, working with MERCY Malaysia Executive Council Member Norazam Abu Samah and Programme Officer Muhammad Fitri Muhammad Hashim to help the victims of the Israeli assault on Gaza more than a week ago.

Another error was:

“Setakat ini, Malaysia menerima kerjasama yang baik dari kedutaan Malaysia dan Palestin di sana. Kita akan sentiasa berhubung dengan mereka bagi mengetahui apakah bentuk bantuan yang diperlukan supaya penghantaran bantuan tidak terputus.”

This is also inaccurate and should read:

“We are working closely with partners in Egypt and Palestine and received support from Egyptian Red Crescent to facilitate the delivery of the supplies through Rafah crossing. We are grateful for the support from Malaysian embassy in Cairo.”

MERCY Malaysia has requested that the said daily issue a correction, to which we hope they concede to do.
