Da Ma Cai Gives RM1 Million Ang Pow to Charities PDF Print E-mail

KUALA LUMPUR, Tuesday, January 22, 2008 – Da Ma Cai, in co-operation with the Selangor, Penang and Perak Turf Clubs, continue to share in the festive spirit of Chinese New Year with the needy via its annual joint Da Ma Cai–Turf Clubs Chinese New Year Festival Charity Programme 2008.

What makes this year’s event an exception from previous celebrations is the generous contribution of RM1 million which will benefit more a total of 168 charitable organisations and improve the lives of some 14,000 residents, trainees and beneficiaries across the country.

In conjunction with this occasion, a fun and joyous carnival was organised at the STC Equestrian & Sports Centre (STC) for hundreds of excited children, who were joined by YB Dato’ Dr Ng Yen Yen, Deputy Minister of Finance, Malaysia, who was also on hand to officiate the launch of this annual event, which was in its 14th consecutive year.

Some 400 children and their caregivers from selected charities in the Klang Valley had a memorable experience participating in a variety of games and activities. They also mingled with the friendly clowns who entertained them with magic tricks and creatively sculptured balloons. 

Also present were Mr Yin Yee Yuen, Chief Operating Officer of Da Ma Cai and host, YAM Tunku Dato' Seri Shahabuddin Tunku Besar Burhanuddin, Chairman of Selangor Turf Club. The Perak and Penang Turf Clubs were represented by their respective chairmen, YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Seri V Jeyaratnam and President, YBhg Dato’ Ong Eng Khuan respectively.

Mr Yin said, “As we celebrate the joys of the festive season, which is a time of family reunions and thanksgiving, we are also cognisant of the plight of those in need. In keeping with the tradition of caring and sharing during this auspicious celebration, we are pleased to have been able to organise this community outreach programme with our corporate partners, the Turf Clubs in Peninsular Malaysia.”

“By increasing our contribution to RM1 million this year, we hope to be able to reach out to a wider community. This reaffirms our continued commitment towards our corporate social responsibility initiatives.”

The financial contribution from the joint Da Ma Cai – Turf Clubs Chinese New Year Festival Charity Programme 2008 will go towards the development of charities and voluntary organisations that provide services for the elderly, orphans, economically deprived and disabled communities.

In keeping with tradition, ‘ang pows’ were also presented to residents, trainees, members and staff of the recipient organisations.

At the ceremony, YB Dato' Dr Ng presented cheques to representatives of charity organisations from the Klang Valley and Pahang as part of the nationwide event. The Deputy Minister of Finance also distributed ‘ang pows’ to the young guests present at the party.

Similar cheque presentation ceremonies will also be held at the Perak Turf Club and Penang Turf Club on January 25 and 29, respectively.
