KUALA LUMPUR, Friday, May 8, 2009: MERCY Malaysia today handed over four health posts that will serve 40,000 people who have been internally displaced by the Sri Lankan civil war.

MERCY Malaysia Programme Officer Elliane Arriany Mustapha symbolically handed over the health posts to the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition in a simple ceremony in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Menic Farm, Cheddikulam.

Also present to witness the event was Malaysian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Rosli Ibrahim.

In three weeks, MERCY Malaysia turned four 40-foot containers into health posts which will be stationed at four sub-divisions in Menic Farm.

Each health post is equipped with outpatient and in-patient facilities including an outpatient room, a pharmacy, a medical screening counter and transit beds.

MERCY Malaysia equipped the posts at the request of the Ministry which had received the containers from the German Red Cross via the Sri Lanka Red Cross.
