MERCY Malaysia Maintains Position as An Apolitical NGO

MERCY Malaysia is a non-governmental organisation which has remained apolitical since its inception 10 years ago. As an organisation, MERCY Malaysia does not actively advocate for political change. Taking a middle ground is crucial for the organisation and the work that it does. MERCY Malaysia has no other interest but to serve the destitute to the best of its abilities, for as long as funds are available.

On Feb 13, 2009, a local English daily published a story under the heading “Students send e-mails to Obama to end Palestinian conflict” where it erroneously reported that “In light of the recent bombings in Palestine, Mercy Malaysia initiated a programme called ‘E-mails From Pahang Students to President Obama”.

MERCY Malaysia wishes to clarify that the event was organised by Yayasan Pahang (Pahang Foundation) with the support of the Pahang State Government, and not by MERCY Malaysia. MERCY Malaysia was invited by Yayasan Pahang to the event to accept a donation for its Palestine Relief Fund.
MERCY Malaysia has written officially to The Star’s Editors to request that a clarification be published and hopes that it will be.
