Kuala Lumpur, 27 August 2009 – In line with its ‘Vitality’ mission of doing good for the community, Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn Bhd has embarked on a ‘Malaysian Favourites’ Campaign at all Tesco stores nationwide beginning 29 July 2009 and ended on 26 August 2009.
The month-long campaign will see a portion of every sale of six popular Unilever brands, namely Sunsilk, Lifebuoy, Breeze, Lipton, Rexona and Planta be donated to MERCY Malaysia’s Humanitarian Fund to help fund its humanitarian relief activities.
The campaign is one of the many initiatives that Unilever Malaysia had undertaken over the years in aid of charity-related causes. “As a responsible corporate citizen, we always believe in giving back to the community in which we operate. In this regard, playing our role in generating fund to assist MERCY Malaysia in carrying out its activities is something that we feel proud to do. At the end of the campaign by end of this month, we will hand over proceed gained from this campaign to MERCY Malaysia. It is Unilever Malaysia’s way of saying thank you to MERCY Malaysia for all the wonderful and tireless volunteer relief works that MERCY Malaysia had undertaken locally and abroad which have done the country and Malaysians proud.
At the same time, we also wish to record our appreciation to the public who had contributed to the success of the campaign, without which the campaign objectives would not be achieved”, says Andre Rompis, Unilever Malaysia Chairman & Managing Director.
For MERCY Malaysia, the collaboration with Unilever signifies the unwavering support from the Malaysian corporate sector, in spite of the current economic situation.
“Financial contributions from corporations such as Unilever Malaysia are valuable for us to maintain our effort in providing sustainable humanitarian relief especially to the vulnerable communities in Malaysia,” said MERCY Malaysia President, Dr. Ahmad Faizal Perdaus.
On the home front, MERCY Malaysia provides basic health care to vulnerable communities such as the Orang Asli community in the Belum rainforest; street children residing in Rumah Nursalam, Chow Kit; and far-off communities located in the remote interiors of Sabah and Sarawak, among others.
“It is with this view that we hope many more corporations will step up to emulate this effort by Unilever Malaysia so that we can continue to provide hope and care to the these communities."
