The School Watching programme is aimed at promoting a culture of disaster preparedness in schools.
The School Watching programme consists of 2 separate activities:
What is School Watching?
School Watching is a tool for conducting “Community-Based Hazard Mapping”. The school community identifies hazards and risks in and around their school, then develop solutions to make the school a safer place.
School Watching is a hazard mapping tool. Hazard maps are a way to raise public awareness about disaster risks. It is an important step for improving a community’s disaster preparedness.
The Community-Based Hazard Mapping has three key objectives:
- To involve locals in developing a hazard map for their community.
- To reflect the opinions of local residents on how to improve the safety of their neighbourhood.
- To foster a common understanding of risks in the community.
School Watching activates risk communication. It recognizes that local communities are the best source of on-site knowledge and information about the risks and hazards around them. It also places importance on getting input from experts.

Gempa bumi mengamuk lagi
Musnah, ancur, lebur, retak di sana sini
Gempar kau membawa tsunami bersamamu
Menghancurkan dunia yang indah
Gempa oh gempa
Tiada tangan mampu menahan gempitanmu
Tembok-tembok besi hancur segalanya
Menghancur bak penisan
Memusnah bah pemotong
