Stewarding humanitarian leadership for 25 years-and beyond.

MERCY Malaysia is actively involved in responding to emergencies and crises across multiple countries, implementing programs focused on emergency response, crisis response, health-related development, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), as well as disaster risk reduction (DRR). Our efforts are underpinned by the Humanitarian-Development Nexus (HDN) approach, which integrates immediate humanitarian responses with long-term development strategies.
Through this approach, MERCY Malaysia creates synergies between emergency relief and development projects, ensuring that our efforts not only provide immediate relief but also contribute to long-term resilience and sustainability.
Our programs are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to good health and well-being (SDG 3), clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), and sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11). By integrating the HDN approach into our operations, we are committed to building resilient communities that are better equipped to withstand future shocks and disasters, contributing to global efforts to achieve the SDGs.

OUR WORK

The Humanitarian-Development Nexus (HDN) combines short-term humanitarian aid with long-term development to achieve well-being, peace, and economic prosperity, while improving coordination to address immediate and systemic issues.

Emergency Response

MERCY Malaysia's Emergency Response is our core mission. During disasters, we provide immediate aid, including medical care, food, water, and shelter. For over 25 years, we’ve responded locally and globally, from natural disasters in Malaysia to conflict zones like Gaza and Yemen, always committed to being there for those in need.

Early Recovery / Recovery

In the Early Recovery phase, MERCY Malaysia helps communities rebuild after disasters by restoring services like healthcare, education, and housing. We support infrastructure reconstruction, offer psychosocial support, and assist families in regaining their livelihoods, ensuring resilient, inclusive recovery.

Prevention and Preparedness

MERCY Malaysia focuses on Prevention and Preparedness by empowering communities to reduce disaster risks through education, training, and public awareness. We work with local authorities to strengthen early warning systems, ensuring communities are prepared to face future crises with resilience.

Sustainable Development

MERCY Malaysia’s Sustainable Development efforts focus on long-term, community-driven solutions. Aligned with the UN’s SDGs, we improve access to healthcare, water, education, and livelihoods, ensuring communities not only recover but thrive through sustainable practices like solar energy and sustainable agriculture.

FEATURED

Air bersih. Komuniti selamat. Masa depan yang lebih cerah. 💧

Over the past 24 hours, the northern states of Perak, Kedah, and Penang have experienced widespread flooding, forcing more than 5,000 people from their homes. In Perak, the situation is particularly severe, with nearly 1,000 families evacuated to 26 temporary relief centres. Rising water levels in Kedah and Penang have also forced hundreds of families to seek safety as heavy rain continues.

Among those affected are women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, who face increased health and protection risks in temporary shelters. Continuous rainfall has also made it difficult for communities to access essential services and begin recovery efforts.

Over the past few months, MERCY Malaysia has been strengthening its preparedness efforts to ensure that our teams and partners are ready to respond when emergencies strike. Through our Disaster Risk Reduction and Management efforts, including the School Preparedness Programme and Community-Based Disaster Risk Management activities, we continue working to build safer and more resilient communities.

MERCY Malaysia is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates on the flood situation in these states from time to time.
