Intense Search & Rescue activities on the ground as authorities scramble to find people under rubble of buildings and retrieve dead bodies.
Over 16,000 people are now rendered homeless and in need of temporary housing.
At 9.40 this morning, Indonesia President Jokowi Widodo declared that they will accept foreign aid for Sulawesi in view of the massive destruction.
This allows MERCY Malaysia to widen our scope of response and reach to the communities affected.

MERCY Malaysia appeals for funds in aid of earthquake and tsunami-struck Palu, Sulawesi

Kuala Lumpur, 30 September 2018…Following the 7.7 Richter Scale earthquake which triggered a tsunami in Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi, on 28 September, MERCY Malaysia is appealing for funds to bring humanitarian relief to affected communities. The Indonesian National Board for Disaster Manager has reported that close to 400 lives have been lost, and hundreds more injured.

July 25, 2018: MERCY Malaysia deploys immediate aid as Tropical Storm Son-Tinh lashes PDR Laos

Kuala Lumpur, 25 July 2018. MERCY Malaysia is sending a team on the first flight out tomorrow morning to Vientiane, People’s Republic of Laos, following severe flooding caused by the Tropical Storm Son-Tinh last week. Over 10,000 people are affected, with close to 400 families evacuated to temporary emergency shelter. 

The heavy rains have caused floodwaters to rise rapidly in 41 districts across 10 provinces encompassing Attapeu, Savanhnakhet, Khammaouan, Xayabuly, Bolikhamsay, Luang Prabang, Bokeo, Sekong, Xiengkhouang and Oudomxay. The floods are worsened by an overflow from the Xepien-Xenamnoyu Dam, which inundated downstream villages, and damaged key public infrastructure such as bridges, roads, and schools. Over 250 houses are badly damaged, as rescuers race to evacuate families who have climbed to their rooftops or clung to trees to escape rising floodwaters.

MALAYSIAN GOLF ASSOCIATION HOLDS ANGELS OF MERCY GOLF SERIES IN AID OF MERCY MALAYSIA

Kuala Lumpur, 31 OCTOBER 2017 – Malaysia Golf Association today launched the ANGELS OF MERCY GOLF SERIES in response to MERCY Malaysia’s clarion call to raise funds for humanitarian aid. The golf series will kick off with its first tournament on 3 December 2017, at the Sungai Long Golf & Country Resort, Kajang, with proceeds channelled to the Rohingya refugees in Cox Bazar, Bangladesh. The rest of the tournaments will continue with a series of 12 tournaments in the next two years.
